Cable or DSL?
Personal Comments…I asked Merc of MadnessPC his thoughts about cable since he is on Cable. This is what he had to say about it: “Since cable is shared and if you do a lot of downloading like me it is virtually impossible for them (cable provider) to monitor exactly how much you’re downloading. On the flipside of this the negative about it being shared, on peek times it’s slower. If you do not have cable television and just the @home service you can manage to scam a few basic channels if you run a splitter from your wall cable jack one to your modem and the other to your modem. I don’t know what DSL is like exactly, but there seems to be a fair amount of technical difficulties and maintenance with my cable at times. Apparently the U.S. cable has less technical difficulties than the Canadian.”Here is an example of a test done by Merc at peak time: Merc's throughput is the line in Red
And here is one done on off peak time
What Cable ISP Has To Say…“Get connected through high-speed Internet services. No matter what type of business you own connecting through cable is better. It’s up to 4 times faster than DSL, and up to 100 times faster than dialup services”. They now admit that there are slow periods in their service especially in the peak times approximately between 4-7pm when people come home from school and work
