Cable or DSL?
A Little About DSL…
DSL is described, as “digital subscriber line”. This runs through a regular telephone line, you do not need an extra line. There is no sharing like cable, it is a dedicated line for you and you only. A telephone line goes from your telephone jack to your modem, which converts a regular copper line into a high speed digital connection allowing you to have access to your telephone while you are surfing the Internet. Positive and Negatives…Since you are on a dedicated line, the downloading speed should stay the same 24/7, not like cable where it is a shared line, when on certain times of the day it could be slower. The downside to it being a dedicated line is that it maybe well monitored on what you upload and download. For optimal performance you should run no more than 100 feet of telephone line from you phone jack to your modem. It is recommended to keep the cord as short as possible.
Personal Comments…I asked a user of ADSL for his comments on ADSL and this is what he had to say, “Since you are the only one on your hub, you won't
have as many slow periods during peak times.
You still may have some slow times but you’ll go from downloading a
file at 160kbps down to 100kbps...not 20 or 30 kbps like Cable.
Sometimes I hear Cable users saying it's worse than dial-up
<56Kmodem> speeds (Uuuuggghhh!!!). Finally, it's dependable!!! I have had mine for almost a year now and not once have I EVER had it go down on me. It could just be a certain "EVIL EMPIRE" that left Western Canada for the East but if I had a Canadian Peso (LOL) for every time I heard a Cable user exclaim "Woe is me! I can't get my email...it's down AGAIN!” I would be the owner of some prime Russian waterfront property with change to spare!”
And here is one done off peak time
