The 753DF is a 17” monitor (16” viewable) with an amazing picture tube. It is completely flat, and produces the most clear and crisp images. The colors are vibrant and razor sharp. You also do not get the horizontal lines that plague monitors that use Trinitron tubes. The Smart III™ surface treatment provides incredible anti-glare and anti-static protection. Whether working in the dark, under fluorescent lighting, or in bright sunshine through a window, I have not once noticed any glare. In my room, which is prone to dusty conditions, the anti-static coating has kept my monitor dust free, while my television 3 feet away is in constant need of being cleaned. The monitor swivels very easily in its stand, and fits in the same desktop space as most 15” monitors. The onscreen controls are easy to use, and control all the functions of the monitor. Power consumption is considerably lower than that of Trinitron monitors. At a maximum consumption of 90W, that is 25% lower than the 120W consumed by the Trinitron. The 3-year warranty from Samsung stands behind the quality and durability of this product. The 753DF can be found for around $200 US.
With the maximum resolution only being 1280x1024, you don’t get the super high resolutions that other 17” monitors offer. Also with a maximum refresh rate of 85Hz, those of you with very sensitive eyes may want to look into the 755DF that offers higher resolution and refresh rates.
The Samsung Syncmaster 753DF is a very good monitor for home and small office use. It is easy to move around, and offers great picture quality. The price to performance ratio is exemplary. I have not found a monitor that offers such great performance at such a low price. Before making any monitor purchase, I do suggest checking out a demo at a local computer store.
